By the end of kindergarten, students who are making adequate progress in reading/writing are able to:
Reading:
- The student will begin to relate text and pictures.
- The student will identify between rhyming and non-rhyming words.
- The student will identify beginning sounds of letters.
- The student will understand beginning concepts of print.
- The student will know most of the upper and lower case letters of the alphabet.
- The student will read some sight words from the kindergarten sight word list.
- The student will draw or orally tell about the content of a story.
- The student shows interest in looking at a book.
Writing:

The students will write/draw to express his/her ideas.

The student will write first name in proper formation.

The student will be able to write most upper and lower case letters of the alphabet.

The student attempt to form words when writing.
