5.3 Know the main idea of a story and make predictions
5.4 Read a variety of genre
5.5 Read and learn meanings of words using the glossary
5.6 Skim materials to get a general overview or locate specific information
5.7 Recognize fiction versus non-fiction
5.8 Know the main idea of a story versus details of a story
5.9 Know the setting of a story
Writing:
5.1 Become familiar with writing an original, persuasive, and descriptive essay
5.2 Become familiar with writing 7 sections of an autobiography
5.3 Become familiar with the writing process – brainstorming, planning, drafting, proofreading, editing, and publishing
5.4 Produce a 16-page book with illustrations and have it published in a hard cover text – using the writing process.
5.5 Become familiar with Readers’ Theatre production
5.6 Become familiar with corresponding with a Pen Pal in another town
5.7 Writing pieces will be selected and organized into a Middle School Portfolio, including a Table of Contents.
Listening & Speaking:
5.1 Become
familiar with taking organized notes on a listening passage and apply
the information to answer extended response questions
5.2 Become familiar presenting an organized report to the class
5.3 Become familiar with presenting Readers’ Theatre
