Common Core Learning Standards

Common Core Learning Standards are part of a national effort to provide a clear blueprint for the set of knowledge and skills students need to be prepared for success in college and careers. The initiative is led by the National Governors Association for Best Practices and the Council of Chief State School Officers  Common Core standards have been adopted by most states across the country, including New York.

In New York, Common Core standards apply to English Language Arts and Mathematics for pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The standards will also form the basis of the state assessments for the current school year.
