The Oxford Academy and Central School District, chartered in 1794 is the 4th oldest school district west of the Hudson River. The district is proud of its history of providing an excellent education to its students. The school system currently has a student enrollment of 710 students in grades UPK-12.
The leadership team is comprised of the superintendent of schools, business administrator, director of special programs, and three building principals. They lead 85 professional staff members dedicated to student learning. The supervisors for buildings and grounds, transportation and food services, along with 75 full and part-time people provide an excellent support staff for school programs.
The district is committed to high levels of learning for all students, by sustaining a collaborative culture focused on student results. The Board of Education has invested in instructional technology, continuous staff development and enhancements of programs to ensure that all our students are prepared to succeed in the 21st Century.

In the Oxford Schools, we know that to be a leader in achievement we must offer opportunities for all students to excel. We know each child learns differently and we are continually searching for better ways to support each student as they develop into self-directed learners. We are committed to doing whatever it takes to guarantee each student is successful.
The number of opportunities to excel in Oxford is growing each year. Incoming Freshman will have the opportunity to earn over 25 credits towards college. In addition to these advanced courses we offer a diverse selection of fine arts, technology, business and other elective courses. We are also in the process of offering a local advanced diploma to honor those students who go above and beyond our standards of excellence.
Support for All
We are proud of our small class sizes that allow for personal support of each student. A variety of school-wide functions and programs, gives our students a sense of community. “One student at a time” means just that, and we demonstrate our commitment to fulfill our vision by:
- Integrating the Responsive Classroom model into our PK-5 classrooms.
- Having students learn and live the “Blackhawk Pledge.”
- Scheduling timely and focused academic interventions three days per week.
We also believe that we must support our faculty and we demonstrate this by:
- Providing professional learning/development opportunities to allow time for teachers to collaborate about student learning.
- Supporting a formal induction and mentoring program for all new teachers.
- Allowing teachers to develop innovative programs and courses by allocating the resources necessary to sustain these efforts.
